Life get’s busy and I haven’t really taken the time to get out to see much of Hamilton’s art community. Tonight, I did just that. I kept hearing about the Hamilton Art Crawl but thought it was only in the summer. Well it’s not! The Art Crawl is every second Friday of the month … every month … and spans several blocks along James Street North. So we dressed warmly and headed downtown to check it out.
I was surprised that for a December evening, there were quite a lot of people out and about. The galleries, cafes and bars were buzzing with activity as each one hosted visitors and friends. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. On one stretch we wandered into Gallery Tim Francis and were met by the owner/artist and his wife. His work featured two styles, both of which I like very much. What they both had in common was that they featured images of Hamilton.
The first ones that caught my eye were the colourful streetscapes of James Street North in the summertime. Then further inside the gallery were great collages of images of Hamilton. Very cool. Tonight was my idea of a nice time. We got to see some really terrific art, had a great time chatting with the artists, had some nibblies and a glass of wine, and enjoyed a nice evening walk. There were too many galleries to visit all in one night, so we’ll be back another time. You can look forward to more Art Crawl posts. Thanks for the cookies Tim!
