It’s funny how life goes sometimes. After two years of putting my blog on hold for other commitments, I have been thinking it’s time to dust it off and spend some time in the countryside looking for new studios to explore. As if to answer the Artisanian call, last week I came across brochures for a studio tour being held next weekend that’s practically in my backyard.
I’ve never been to the Beyond the Valley Studio Tour before, and it looks like a good one. Their website has all the information you need and there’s no better way to spend a day on the weekend. As I flipped around the site, it was interesting to read that it’s the second oldest ongoing studio tour in Ontario. The tour will feature 13 artists at six studios, each within an easy drive from Hamilton, Kitchener and even Toronto.
The tour looks like a nice mix of pottery, jewellery, glass and woodworking. I can’t wait to see all the handmade creations, to do a little shopping, and most of all, for the chance to poke around the artists’ studios. That’s the best part of these open house tours as they aren’t always open to the public.
So, rain or shine, next weekend I’ll be armed with a map and a friend to check out what’s “beyond the valley”. See you there!
